Contactor on a Goodman GSX140361 seized up completely — unit was drawing power but compressor wouldn't kick on at all. Pulled the electrical panel and found the 40-amp contactor contacts welded shut from years of arcing. Swapped it with a Honeywell replacement, checked the capacitor while I was in there since it looked original. Cap tested fine at 35 mfd but replaced it anyway given the age of the unit. Cycled the system four times, monitored amp draw on startup — running clean now at 28 amps. Should be good for the cooling season.

Frequently Asked Questions

West Street's proximity to the Hudson River creates higher humidity levels that can overwork AC systems during spring temperature swings. Newburgh's variable spring weather means your AC condenser works harder to remove moisture when warm, humid air hits cold coils. We often find that West Street homes need dehumidification adjustments during our spring service calls to handle the river valley moisture effectively.
In older West Street homes, we commonly find ductwork issues like loose connections rattling when the system starts up, uneven cooling between rooms, or musty odors from winter moisture buildup. These central Newburgh homes often have original ductwork that settles over time. Spring is the perfect time to address these issues before you're relying on AC daily during hot summer weather.
West Street's traffic requires careful consideration of outdoor unit placement to minimize noise conflicts and ensure proper airflow. We position condensers away from street-facing windows when possible and use sound dampening pads that work well in Newburgh's urban setting. Proper placement also protects units from road salt residue that can corrode components over winter months.
Many West Street properties have older electrical panels that need evaluation before AC installation or major repairs. Newburgh's housing stock often dates back decades, and we frequently recommend panel upgrades to handle modern high-efficiency systems safely. Our electricians can assess your current setup and determine if you need 220V circuit upgrades or panel improvements during the same service visit.
Our Newburgh location allows us to reach West Street properties within 1-2 hours for emergency AC calls during business hours. The central location means we can quickly dispatch technicians with common parts for older systems typical in the area. We stock replacement components for the AC brands most commonly installed in West Street homes, which speeds up same-day repair completion.
