Signs You Should Replace Your Furnace

As the temperatures cool down, our homes need to be heating up. We rely on our furnace to keep us warm all winter, and if it breaks, it can be devastating. Look out for these warning signs to know if you need to replace your furnace.

It’s Old

Furnaces typically only last about 15 to 20 years. If you’re able to check or remember when the furnace was installed, you can see if you’re nearing the end, have a few more years to go, or already should’ve had it replaced. An old furnace isn’t necessarily a broken furnace, but they’re more likely to break down, and you should keep an eye out for problems.

Your Energy Bills Cost More

If your furnace becomes less efficient at heating your house, it’s going to take more energy to keep you warm, and this will show up on your energy bills. If you’ve noticed the number rise while the temperatures haven’t, your furnace should be upgraded or replaced.

Do you Notice Dust, Noises, or a Bad Smell

If your furnace isn’t working, it can cause problems all throughout your house. You may notice an excess of dust or dirt while the furnace is in use. The furnace may be abnormally loud or make rattling and buzzing sounds. It may also smell particularly musty after a few days of use. If any of these things are true, your furnace is starting to die.

It’s Not Keeping You Warm

A furnace’s job is to keep you warm. If it’s not doing that, then you need a new furnace. It’s as simple as that.
