Many famous historical figures have interesting ties to plumbing. For example, did you know that: 

  • Albert Einstein was an honored member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, as he once said he’d be a plumber if he could redo his life.
  • King Minos of Crete owned the first mechanical, flushing water closet centuries before John Herrington invented one for Queen Elizabeth I.
  • Speaking of John Herrington, he’s the reason we sometimes call the toilet the “John.”
  • The world’s most famous plumbers would technically be Mario and Luigi of the Super Mario Brothers video game franchise.
