Common Water Heater Issues

Common Water Heater Issues

Your water heater plays a crucial role in your daily life inside of your home. Whether it is chores around the house, or a hot shower after a long day, the health of your water heater impacts a multitude of areas in your life. With the winter months looming ahead, it is important to be sure that your water heater is performing at its best. When it comes to your water heater, there are a few common issues that you can watch out for.

Common Issues

You want your water heater to perform at its best. It is important to know the signs to look out for when it comes to the health of your water heater. These common issues include:

  • Temperature changes – If you are noticing fluctuations in your water heater’s temperature, this may be a sign that something isn’t working right. If you notice your water is staying cold, this could mean that there is a lack of power to your water heater, that you have a faulty thermostat, or a faulty heating unit. If your water is lukewarm, this could mean that you have an undersized heater, or the hot and cold connections were crossed. This could also mean a faulty heating element or thermostat. If your water is too hot, your thermostat may be set too high or working incorrectly.
  • Leaks – There are numerous reasons why your tank might be leaking. This is a serious issue, and should be addressed asap. This could be from a faulty temperature valve, improper water pressure, a stuck valve, or a bad gasket just to name a few.
  • Discolored water – If your water appears rusty, this could be a sign of corrosion in the inner lining, usually caused by a failing anode rod.
  • Odd noises – Sediment buildup within your tank can cause it to make strange noises.

If you notice any of these issues, it is important to turn to an expert who can help you determine the root of the problem. Our team at D. Rohde Heating, Plumbing and AC can help pinpoint the problem and assess what your next best option would be.
